Thank you to our local residents, churches, businesses, and organizations!

In St. Joseph SSVdP Conference during June 2023, we provided $7571 in services to 94 families with a total served of 205 residents:  $3558 Rent, $650 WPS, $300 Water, Fuel $155, and $2908 other – auto repairs, work boots, etc.  Gratitude to our monthly contributors.

After reading last weeks paper regarding the City Council meeting my first reaction was O.M.G. I couldn't believe what I had just read. A so called professional abruptly leaving a meeting, why because Mr. Rau couldn't or wouldn't answer 3 questions that were addressed to him, unbelievable but not surprising. I think out of the 5 questions I asked months ago, I still haven't gotten  answers to some of them.

Nat King Cole performed a song by that title, which was written by a German named Hans Bradtke.  It was released in the U.S. in 1963, and is a joyful celebration of old-fashioned summers. 

A very charming song, and I remember my dad humming it. I believe we even had a recording of it in 78 rpm format, on the “Blue Velvet” label.

The Peshtigo VFW Post 8813 would like to thank all the generous donors that contributed to our yearly 4th of July Poppy Distribution. This fund will help veterans and veteran organizations that need assistance.

Also thank you to the veterans and their wives that helped with this project as well as Jack’s in Marinette, and Lofaro’s and Eagle Express in Peshtigo.

As Gov Evers signs a budget, there are a few takeaways that should be worth noting. 

Given that the Assembly took a 10 month vacation last year, it is mildly impressive that they are still in session in July.  It is nice to see them working and earning a paycheck.

We’ve been having some perfect Wisconsin weather…warm, sunny days and some much needed rain at night. Some of the days have been too warm for comfort, and some of the rains have been a bit too heavy, but all in all, everything is good.

When I was little my dad used to take my siblings and I to Peshtigo Harbor often.  We went in summer to puddle around on the beach, and to play on the ice in the winter.  A VW beetle “may” have been used out on the ice to drag around a “snow pan” which “may” have had children on it.  (It was so much fun, of course now I shudder at how risky it was.)
